Phoenix was born out of a desire to build a successful and highly professional recruitment company. We are hungry for anything that helps us to achieve these goals and joining and supporting the RCSA, whose remit includes lifting the standards in the industry, was therefore a given.

When we were invited to participate in the accreditation process we readily agreed.

There is always a temptation when you are going to be audited, tested, to brush stuff under the carpet. We decided no, we wanted to see EXACTLY where we were because how else were we going to know how to get to where we wanted to be.

Dianne Gibert from Fathom was fantastic. She was supportive without providing a paint-by-numbers template, so that we had to really think about how we were going to meet the RCSA standards in our own way. The standards are really well thought through (thanks to those who put all the effort into that) and totally relevant. We knew that the clients and candidates would be the focus but we were also delighted to see that all of us at Phoenix, owners and consultants, were also seen as important stakeholders.

The points are out of 10 and we had to get a 5 in each of 8 areas to pass. There is an industry average and a maximum benchmark, and we started with the maximum benchmark as our minimum target. If there is a 10 available we will be going for a 10. We have asked Fathom to come back and assess us during the year to help keep us o track.

It has been a terrific exercise and now the real work starts. We need to translate each of those standards into action on the ground, where the rubber meets the road.
